The UEF Political Commission on Rule of Law, Values & European Cohesion (PC2) is happy to welcome you to its live debate on The Slovak elections

What will be the European impact of the election in Slovakia? Will Robert Fico be able to form a government? if so, could it lead to the "orbanization" of Slovakia?

In the framework of PC2, we would like to invite you to an online discussion about the results of the Slovakian election that took place on the 30th of September. Robert Fico, the former prime minister, resigned amidst the political scandal of the brutal killing of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his girlfriend. We will discuss the coalition possibilities and what this new government will bring to the functioning of the European Union. It is a crucial question from the point of view of basic European values whether Viktor Orban will get a new illiberal ally within the Union, and whether the Visegrad cooperation can be revived.

This discussion will also contribute to our work within the PC2 preparing for the Federal Committee meeting. In the near future, we are going to have another discussion about the upcoming Polish election, as well as to understand more the dynamics in the Central and Eastern European region of the EU.

Speakers:

  • Norbert Kucharik, UEF Slovakia
  • Eszter Nagy, UEF Hungary, rapporteur of PC2
