European Digital Sovereignity: where we are?
In the new geopolitical competition, Europe discovers the extent of its dependencies and the systemic risk to its values and competitiveness. The EU’s legal toolbox is impressive: the 2018 GRPD, the Digital Europe program of 2021 and most prominently, the DSA and DMA.
- Yet, facing the pressure of US Big Tech, tariffs and aggressive extraterritoriality, is regulation sufficient to ensure EU digital sovereignty?
- Is it (the ”Brussels effect”) an obstacle to innovation?
- How can the EU gain control over digital technologies, data, and infrastructure?
- Is not an industrial policy needed also for social media?
We debate those topics with
- Domenec Ruiz Devesa President of UEF, Member of the European Parliament 2019-2024
- Sandro Gozi (MEP, tbc)
- Liviu Stirbat, EC Head of Unit for AI in Science
- Christophe Leclercq, Founder EuropeMédiaLab (& Euractiv)
Moderator Catherine Vieilledent, SecGen UEFGroupeEurope, member TED
