The First We are Europe Citizens' Agora took place in Budapest form 22 to 23 February 2019, and was organised in collaboration with UEF Hungary, The Young European Federalists (JEF) and The Spinelli Group.

The Agora involved civil society actors and political representatives from EU member states in a debate about the future of Europe in the context of raising populism in Europe, where civil society actors operate in hostile political environments, when democracy and rule of law are endangered, especially in member states such as Hungary.

Discussing the current situation with representatives from the Hungarian civil society sector and politics, UEF president Sandro Gozi responded to the current political situation in Hungary calling for the respect of Rule of Law in Europe, stating: “On Rule of Law, there is only one speed Europe” .

In addition to debates and seminars, the Agora included a flash mob with members of UEF Hungary singing the Ode to Joy in a public square in Budapest showing support for a democratic and European future for Hungary.
