70 YEARS OF FEDERALIST COMMITMENT TO THE POLITICAL UNITY OF EUROPE
The Union of European Federalists (UEF) was founded on December 15th 1946 in Paris. To celebrate the UEF’s 70th Anniversary, to honor the past and to look to the future, we organize a public debate on Saturday, 3 December 2016, in Paris.
The debate will be composed of three sessions:
The first session will be dedicated to the foundation of the supranational UEF. It will look at how its member organisations, such as Union Française des Fédéralistes, Federal Union, MFE and Europa Union Deutschland, were created, and how they joined forces in a European organisation.
The second session will assess which stages have been reached in the process towards a federal Europe.
Last, but not the least, we will discuss and brainstorm on what remains to be done in the forthcoming years.
The leading historians of European integration will place the debate within a historical context, testimonies from the people close to the founders will allow to gain a better perspective of the major events contributing to the creation of the movement, prominent intellectuals and political representatives will give their viewpoint on the current European integration processes and next steps to be taken.
Participation is open to everyone, from those who have been the part of the organisation during its 70 years of existence and those interested in the history of the European federalists. More information will follow.
