"Il Sogno" by Roberto Benigni
On the same day that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni mocked the Ventotene Manifesto in front of the Italian Parliament, Roberto Benigni, actor, comedian, director and Oscar winner (for Life is Beautiful) went prime time on Rai 1 (Italy's main public television channel) with a monologue show called the ‘Dream’ and seen by about 4.396.000 people on television alone (i.e. excluding online and radio views): 140 minutes of almost fairytale-like storytelling about the European Union from its origins in the Ventotene Manifesto, to its past and recent successes and its still uncertain future.
The monologue is a hymn to the Europe dreamed of by the European federalists, to the great values it embodies -such as democracy and peace, which we take for granted today but are not- and we are truly proud to be part of this Great History.
We warmly thank Roberto Benigni for this bold choice and a special thanks also goes to an Italian federalist militant, Michele Ballerin, who helped prepare the speech performance.
At the moment it is possible only to watch the video in streaming on Rai Play in italian with geo localization in Italy: LINK HERE
