Meeting N. 06 | A joint event of the Union of European Federalists (UEF) & World Federalist Movement-Institute for Global Policy (WFM-IGP)

Eighty years after the signing of the United Nations Charter, the world stands at a critical crossroads. Multilateralism, a cornerstone of the post-war international order, is under growing pressure: the resurgence of nationalism, the rise of neo-protectionism, and increasing geopolitical fragmentation are challenging the ability of global institutions to respond effectively to shared challenges.

"Reshaping Multilateralism. UN Charter turns 80" is an opportunity to reflect on the future of sustainable global governance. The event brings together experts, academics, activists, and policymakers to explore new perspectives for international cooperation—from UN reform and climate crisis response to the role of regional organizations such as the EU and Mercosur, and the urgent need to tackle transnational threats like organized crime and corruption.

At the heart of the debate: how can we rebuild a shared and inclusive vision of multilateralism, capable of meeting the needs of our time? How can we prevent the return of national power politics from undermining the possibility of collective action based on human rights, environmental justice, and global solidarity?
