2025 Highlights & Key Events
The first half of 2025 marked a period of intensive work, strategic vigilance, and enhanced public presence for UEF Greece. Following the General Assembly of 24 January, which elected a renewed Board and Audit Committee, the organization moved forward with a refreshed vision and a clear mandate. We mobilized our efforts to address the most pressing challenges of our time: growing geopolitical instability, the imperative of a common European defense, and the deepening of political integration within the Union.
1. Public Lecture – Greece, Europe and the Global System 2025: Quo Vadis?
UEF Greece hosted a keynote address by Prof. Panagiotis Ioakeimidis, one of Greece’s most distinguished European affairs experts. He outlined the strategic uncertainty of 2025, Europe’s global role, and the institutional changes required to sustain stability and unity.
2. Dialogue on European Identity – Literature, Politics & Europe in the Trump Era
A thought-provoking discussion featuring Maria Patakia (legal scholar & poet) and author Soti Triantafyllou examined Europe’s cultural identity and the challenges posed by a turbulent US political landscape. Moderated by Dr. Theodoros Tsikas, Vice-President of UEF Greece.
3. Regional Event – Quo Vadis Europa? at Sparta.Komvos
In cooperation with FOGGS and sparta.komvos, UEF Greece participated in a major regional debate on Europe’s future. President Daphne Gogou and Board Member Giorgos Korkovelos engaged with citizens and young professionals on the EU’s strategic direction and Greece’s role.
4. Brussels Event – EU Strategic Autonomy & Defense
The UEF Greece Brussels Branch and the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU co-organized a high-level event with MEPs, defense experts, and industry representatives, highlighting the urgency of European defense integration.
Moderated by Giannis Voutsinos, member of the Brussels Coordination Committee.
5. “A Second Schuman Plan” – Greek Translation & Public Campaign
UEF Greece translated the historic manifesto proposing the creation of a European System of Defense and Security (ESDS). Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, prominent European figures endorsed this new federalist call for a more autonomous and united Europe.

6. Webinar – Which Federation? with Prof. Alexis Heraclides
An in-depth webinar explored comparative federal models and the principles underlying federal governance worldwide. Moderated by Dr. Theodoros Tsikas.
7. Europe Day 2025 – Federalism in Action
Marking the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, UEF Greece launched a series of interventions, articles and regional dialogues across Greece, promoting the vision of a genuine European Federation.
8. Regional Dialogue – “Europe’s Regions in Conversation” (Florina)
A highly attended youth dialogue in Florina underscored the importance of federal solutions for Europe’s future. Organized by Board Member Kostas Filippidis with OENEF and Europe Direct Western Macedonia.
Speakers included D. Gogou (President), S. Panakoulias (Treasurer), N. Giannis (European Commission), G. Korkovelos (Board Member), D. Papaggelopoulos (Board Member), and N. Sofos (European Commission).
9a. Participation in Volt Greece Marches – Athens & Thessaloniki
UEF Greece members joined the pro-European marches, highlighting the need for renewed integration and democratic federalism.

10. Webinar – A New International Economic Order & the New Bretton Woods
Co-organized by UEF and WFM-IGP, this event revisited Roosevelt’s vision and examined global economic governance in today’s geopolitical environment.
Moderated by UEF Greece President Daphne Gogou.
11. Migration Policy & Dominant Narratives in Europe
The UEF Political Commission on Migration organized a major webinar featuring Tina Zournatzi (Deputy Director, DG COMM, European Commission).
Key themes included communication strategies, misinformation, and human-rights-based federal responses.

12. Rethinking Multilateralism – 80 Years After the UN Charter
A hybrid UEF – WFM/IGP event exploring the future of global governance in an era of nationalism and climate pressure. Participants included experts from Europe, Latin America and the UN system.

13. Closed Seminar – Towards a National Strategy for a Strong and Sovereign Europe
On 13 September 2025, ELIAMEP and UEF Greece co-organized a closed expert seminar titled “Towards a National Strategy for a Strong and Sovereign Europe: Challenges and Prospects in Addressing Populism and Euroscepticism – European Solutions to Contemporary Political Challenges.” Held within the think nea – New Narratives of EU Integration initiative, supported by the Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans, the event featured four thematic panels and a special session with leading academics, experts, and institutional representatives. Discussions explored the EU’s political, social, and institutional challenges, alongside the prospects for deepening and enlargement in the current geopolitical landscape. A key conclusion was the urgent need for a coherent national strategy on European affairs that strengthens Greece’s role in shaping a strong, sovereign, and democratic Europe — with particular attention to tackling populism, migration governance, rule of law, defense and security, sustainable development, social cohesion, and the implications of enlargement ahead of Greece’s EU Council Presidency in 2027.
14. UEF Federal Committee – Athens, 21–23 November 2025
The Union of European Federalists (UEF), in cooperation with UEF Greece, will host the UEF Federal Committee in Athens on 21–23 November 2025 — a landmark European moment for public dialogue on the future of the Union, democratic renewal, and Europe’s strategic autonomy.
The Opening Ceremony will take place in the Senate Hall of the Hellenic Parliament, bringing together institutional representatives, national sections of the UEF, and distinguished figures from academia and politics. Greece will welcome the heart of Europe’s federalist movement just a few years ahead of its EU Council Presidency in 2027, at a time when the call for a stronger, more democratic, and more united Europe is more urgent than ever.
