PRESS RELEASE – UEF Greece Annual General Assembly 2026
UEF Greece successfully held its Annual General Assembly on 25 February 2026, reaffirming its steadfast commitment to a stronger and more democratic European Union.
During the open session, an ambitious political initiative was presented—modelled on similar European actions—aimed at providing public and tangible support from Greek Mayors for the vision of the United States of Europe. The session featured the participation of the President of UEF Italy and two representatives of Italian local government, highlighting the decisive role of municipalities in advancing the initiative for the United States of Europe and the need to encourage greater engagement by the central government.
The initiative is currently underway, with the objective of collecting, in the coming weeks, the signatures of a strong and representative group of Mayors from across the country. Prominent municipalities are already participating, including cities with a significant presence in European initiatives for climate-neutral, smart, and resilient urban development, spanning multiple regions of Greece.
We believe that this initiative is not merely a symbolic statement of intent but a grassroots political intervention that underscores the role of local government as a catalyst for democratic deepening and Europe’s federal perspective. In this context, a public event is planned for 2026, bringing together Mayors and political figures from Greece and across Europe.
The second part of the Assembly, attended exclusively by members of the Organisation, included the presentation of the 2025 financial and organisational report, a review of the year’s key activities, as well as the work programme and priorities for 2026. The active participation of members strengthened institutional dialogue and our collective effort toward a more cohesive, effective, and capable Europe.
