The Union of the European Federalists (UEF Greece) – Brussels and the Permanent Representation of Greece to the European Union organised on 21 May, an event-discussion with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou, on "The European Dialogue on the EU Deepening and EU Enlargement process and the Foreign Policy of Greece".

The debate was moderated by Journalist Alexandra Voudouri, Correspondent of Kathimerini in Brussels, while introductory comments were made by Lambis Kontonis, Coordinator of UEF Greece in Brussels.

Cyclades Member of the Greek Parliament F. Fortomas, the Permanent Representative of Greece to the EU Ambassador I. Vrailas, the Ambassador of Greece to Belgium S. Grammata, the Consul V. Zarbalis, the president of UEF Greece , D Gogou as well as representatives of Greek associations in Belgium and many other participants were also present.

The subject of the discussion was the very current dialogue that is taking place about the EU enlargement, the need of Treaty, the abolition of veto and the position of Greece in this context of extremely important changes. The way the EU will deal with these challenges in the near future will determine its very nature. The EU cannot expand without the necessary deepening structural changes, which will give it greater flexibility in the decision-making mechanism, a new dynamism and international power, especially today when the challenges both in the EU and in the international environment are historic. It was also discussed where Greece stands today, in relation to this dialogue about the future of European Union, and its position on future EU enlargements, especially in the Western Balkans.
