Dear Federalist Friends and Members of the Union of European Federalists,

We are pleased to present the report on the actions of the Greek Union for the Federation of Europe (EEnOE/UEF Greece) for the first half of 2024. UEF Greece continues to distinguish itself through creativity and extroversion, undertaking numerous significant initiatives and actions that promote the idea of a European Federation and strengthen the European dialogue.

  • Specifically, starting on January 26, UEF Greece invited Professor Lucas Tsoukalis to deliver an open, public, online speech on "The Challenges and Dilemmas of the EU for 2024."
  • One month later, on February 21, Ms. Daphne Gogou, President of UEF Greece, participated in a joint event of the UEF and the WFM/IGP on the subject of the European and Global "Green" Agreement.
  • A week later, UEF Greece initiated an online thematic seminar on energy policy with Dr. Charalampos Pippos as the main speaker.
  • On March 4, an event and follow-up discussion at the Greek Embassy in Belgium, supported by the local section of UEF Greece in Brussels, examined the topic: "Prospects of European Cohesion Policies and EU Financial Instruments: Experiences, Successes and Challenges for the European Goals and Multiannual Budgets 2021-2027 & 2028-2034".
  • A discussion titled "Late Professor Dimitris Tsatsos: A 'Postscript' for a Democratic and Strong 'European Commonwealth'" took place on March 15 at the Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels. This event highlighted the personality and intellectual legacy of the late Professor and Member of the European Parliament. It was organized by UEF Greece in cooperation with the Permanent Representation to the EU, the Center for European Constitutional Law - Themistocles and Dimitris Tsatsos Foundation, the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), and the Digital Technology and Technical Projects Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens.
  • Our collaboration with the Institute of International Economic Relations (IDOS) contributed to strengthening the dialogue on essential European matters concerning European citizens. Members of different political parties were invited to respond with proposals and positions on these matters on the occasion of the European elections.
  • Therefore, two roundtables were jointly organized in April in Athens by UEF Greece and IDOS, with the aim of deepening the dialogue in view of the European elections of June 2024. These roundtables focused on key thematic sections: Institutional Changes, Foreign Policy and Defense, Fiscal-Euro-Social Policy, Climate Change, and Asylum/Migration Policy.
  • On April 24, the Vice-President of UEF Greece, Mr. Theodoros Tsikas, and the Communications Officer, Ms. Marovita Nikolaidou, participated in a discussion on "Greece's Role in a Changing International Environment, Euro-Atlantic Security," organized by the Greek Association for Atlantic and European Cooperation.
  • UEF Greece successfully celebrated Europe Day on May 9 at the historical site of Knighthood in Rhodes. The event was organized by the local section of UEF Greece in Dodecanese, with coordinators Dr. Eleftheria Ftaklakis and Ms. Elena Gianniki. The President of UEF Greece, Ms. Daphne Gogou, along with experts, academics, and political personalities, discussed the key dilemmas of the European elections and the challenges ahead, underlining the importance of regional coherence.
  • Additionally, a lecture titled "What is the Importance of the EU's Values Today in a World of Turbulence?" by Jimmy Jamar, Director of the Brussels Office of Europa Nostra and former Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Belgium, was co-organized by UEF Greece and IDOS. This event was part of their joint series exploring the challenges and opportunities before the European elections.
  • Completing the first semester of actions before the European elections, UEF Greece, along with the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU, organized a discussion on "The Enlargement of the European Union and the Foreign Policy of Greece." This event, held at the premises of the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU, featured the participation of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou.

We would like to clearly communicate our commitment to continue our work with dedication and enthusiasm, looking forward to new challenges and opportunities to bring citizens closer to European matters.

On behalf of the Board of EEnOE,

                                                                                                              Daphne Gogou - President
