On February 28, 2026, the "Initiative for a United Europe" (IEU) – the official national section of the Union of European Federalists in Romania (UEF Romania) – successfully held its Ordinary General Assembly. The hybrid event, hosted in Bucharest and online, marked a pivotal moment for the organization with the election of a new Executive Board.

A New Team for New Challenges

In accordance with the statutory agenda, the members elected a consolidated leadership team comprising dedicated professionals committed to the cause of European federalism. The new Executive Board structure is as follows:

  • President: Simina Tulbure
  • Vice-President: Mihai Beța
  • Secretary General: Lucian Alexandru Onisei
  • Board Members: Alexandra Brătulescu, Cristiana Ozon, Alessandra Chivu, and Dan Roșu.

This dynamic team aims to transform UEF Romania into a highly relevant actor in the national dialogue and to firmly establish the debate on European federalism within the Romanian public sphere.

Vision of the New Leadership: Integration as Smart Sovereignty

Following her election, President Simina Tulbure highlighted the urgent need for coordinated action amid today’s complex global context:

"Our stake is a strong Romania within a strong Europe. We live in a world where European security is tested daily. A fragmented Europe means a vulnerable Romania. A functional, federal Europe, capable of deciding by majority in key areas, means security, investment, influence, and protection for Romania. We are building a generation that does not fear integration, but rather sees it as a smart form of sovereignty."

The new leadership advocates for "pragmatic federalism," calling for faster decision-making in foreign and defense policies, a genuine European fiscal capacity, and an EU budget that truly reflects our shared ambitions.

The General Assembly and the newly elected Board also extended their public gratitude to Alin Mituța, the founder of IEU in Romania, and the founding colleagues. Their initial vision and efforts were essential in launching the debate on federalism in the Romanian public space, creating a strong foundation upon which the current team will continue to build.
