UEF Belgium's Success at the European Congress in Barcelona: Three Representatives Directly Elected to the Federal Committee.
he UEF Belgium delegation proudly participated in the XXIX European Congress of the Union of European Federalists (UEF), held in Barcelona from March 20 to 22, 2026. The event represented a major milestone on the European political agenda, also marking a historic moment: the celebration of 80 years since the founding of the UEF movement in 1946 to promote the political unity of Europe.
A Strong Voice for Belgium in European Structures
This year's Congress brought together top-tier European leaders and policymakers, including Josep Borrell (former EU High Representative), Guy Verhofstadt (former Prime Minister of Belgium), Salvador Illa (President of the Generalitat of Catalonia), and José Manuel Albares (Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs).
During this high-level event, UEF Belgium representatives achieved a remarkable electoral result, demonstrating the active involvement and relevance of our section in the continental federalist movement. Three members of our delegation were supported by their European colleagues and secured key positions:
- Lucian Alexandru Onisei
- Jean Marsia
- François Mennerat
All three were directly elected as Members of the Federal Committee. From this position, they will play an essential role in setting the political and strategic directions of the UEF for the upcoming mandate.
A Renewed Commitment to a United Europe
Through the election of these three representatives, UEF Belgium strengthens its capacity to influence critical debates on the future of Europe—from the need to overcome the unanimity rule in decision-making to the creation of a genuine European Defense Union and a common fiscal capacity.
The UEF Belgium delegation takes this opportunity to congratulate UEF President Domènec Ruiz Devesa, re-elected by acclamation, as well as the entire Executive Bureau.
